EL AL announces nonstop flights between Chicago and Israel beginning March 2020

Chicago has a large Jewish population of about 300,000 and that the new route will make it easier for them to maintain ties with relatives and friends in Israel.

Next year EL AL will launch a new nonstop route between Chicago and Israel. The new route will have 3 weekly nonstop flights to/from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.

"New service to Tel Aviv by EL AL Israel Airlines is proof that our investments in O’Hare are paying off, as more people throughout the world want to travel to Chicago than ever before,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “From the Midwest to the Middle East, O’Hare is making what’s already the best-connected city in the nation more accessible for travelers throughout the world.”

The new route was the outcome of discussions with Chicago's City Hall. It was noted that Chicago has a large Jewish population of about 300,000 and that the new route will make it easier for them to maintain ties with relatives and friends in Israel.

“I believe there is no better way to connect the State of Israel to the city of Chicago as the gateway to the Midwest and beyond, than with a nonstop flight from Chicago’s O’Hare airport to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport,” said Israel Consul General Aviv Ezra. “I would like to thank Mayor Rahm Emanuel for his leadership and for working together with the Consulate to make this vision finally a reality. This flight is a win-win economically, culturally and financially, bringing both Tel Aviv and Chicago closer.

EL AL Vice President Commercial and Industry Affairs Michael Strassburger: "To meet customer demand, including from business travelers, and thanks to our renewal program that is adding 16 Dreamliner aircraft to our fleet, we are pleased to announce the operation of nonstop flights between Chicago and Israel. This is the eighth EL AL destination in the US, joining New York (JFK and Newark), Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Orlando."

Chicago is the third largest metropolis in the United States and is one of the important academic, cultural, industrial and business centers. Chicago is considered an especially attractive tourist and business destination. EL AL plays a special role in the ties between the Diaspora and Israel, and we are pleased to bring another major destination in the United States closer to Israel, enabling tens of thousands of additional tourists to visit Israel annually.”
