Leading aircraft charter specialist, Air Charter Service, is reporting that its Dubai office has been busy arranging potential evacuations in case tensions in Egypt worsen further. The company has received an increasing number of enquiries and has already contracted a number of aircraft to be placed on standby at Cairo Airport.
The protests began on June 30th across the Middle Eastern Country and resulted in the removal of President Mohamed Morsi by the country’s military. Clashes between Morsi’s supporters and their opponents have resulted in a number of deaths and the riots are putting innocent people in danger.
Justin Bowman, ACS’s Deputy Managing Director, commented: “We have been getting a large amount of calls from worried companies and have already placed various aircraft on standby at Cairo Airport in order to fly into Dubai in case the situation deteriorates. We are also receiving requests to fly to Cyprus and other surrounding countries to escape the troubles in Egypt.”
Bowman added: “We have a huge amount of experience in large scale evacuations – in early 2011, during the Arab Spring uprisings, we evacuated almost 15,000 foreign nationals from Egypt, Libya and Tunisia, and had people on the ground there managing the mass exodus. If the current situation escalates, we may find ourselves in a similar position.”
