aeroflot picks SITA solution to manage resources across three terminals at Sheremetyevo

Russia’s largest airline, Aeroflot, today announced that it has implemented aviation IT provider SITA’s airport management system for its operations across the three terminals of Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport. The system, which also manages resources for its SkyTeam partners, is now in use in Terminal 1 and 2 will be extended to Terminal 3 when it opens later this year.

The three year deal includes the provision of SITA’s AirportResource Manager, which handles slot, stand, gate, baggage carousel and check-in counter management and SITA’s AirportHandling Manager, which covers mobile resource management, remote access, shift, roster and job allocations.

Konsantin Plotnikov, Head of Mission Control Center, Aeroflot said: “Aeroflot needed a system that could handle the particular complexities we face at Sheremetyevo where we have three terminals operated by different management companies and we also have to take into consideration our Skyteam partners’ requirements.

“With SITA’s AirportResource Manager we can reduce the time required for resource planning across our 99 check-in desks, 52 departure gates and nine baggage carousels, and have quick operations analysis which allows us to manage last-minute flight changes efficiently.”

Ilya Gutlin, SITA’s Regional Vice President East and Central Europe said: “Aeroflot is leading the way in Russia by using this advanced resource management system. The optimal allocation and real-time management of resources delivers benefits in the form of both operational efficiencies and passenger satisfaction.”

Aeroflot accounts for approximately 45 per cent of international traffic and 12.5 per cent of domestic traffic in Russia and operates flights to 95 destinations in 48 countries from its hub at Sheremetyevo International. In 2008, the airport had 15.2 million passengers and catered for 60% of Russia’s international flights. The new Terminal Three serves anchor tenant Aeroflot, and other members of the SkyTeam Alliance including Alitalia, Air France, Delta, KLM and Korean Air and handles 3,800 passengers per hour.
