Local authorities and entrepreneurs on Andros<.> have submitted demands to the government that it take action to help solve the problems the island faces in its sea connections with Piraeus and other Cycladic isles.

Andros` coastal shipping coordination committee intends taking definitive action, such as the temporary blocking off of the island`s main port, if a solution is not found.

The committee has forwarded a proposal to the merchant marine ministry calling for a number of specific vessels to service the island via Piraeus;

a direct link with Thessaloniki; Highspeed vessel routes; a greater number of services; and the spacing out of ship arrival times in order to reduce congestion at the port.
