With the completion of 16 months of Athens International Airport operation, approximately 7,850,000 departing bags have been 100% screened and successfully transported through AIA`s sophisticated Baggage Handling System and screening machines.

Specifically, up to the end of July 2002, the following number of departing bags has been screened, transported and handled:

* 6,900,000 in-gate bags were 100% screened and passed through the BHS.

* 950,000 out-of-gauge bags were 100% screened using the transfer and transit OOG baggage screening machines.

BHS Record Days

Saturday 18 August 2001, was the peak day for bags passing through the BHS: Approximately 32,000 bags passed through the baggage halls, which is a record number for baggage handling.

Respectively, on Sunday 29 July 2001, a record number of 3,780 bags were transported by AIA Baggage Manual Handlers via the OOG lifts, and 100% screened. Usually, baggage handlers transport approximately 2,000 bags daily.

Finally, the entire BHS Operating Team deserves a special mention for their timely and efficient baggage handling. For them, luggage is the top priority, and they prove it in action.
