BAA Edinburgh Airport has secured a new air service between Scotland`s capital city and Galway in the  Republic of Ireland.

Welcoming the daily service, operated by Ireland`s leading regional airline Aer Arann, Edinburgh Airport`s managing director Richard Jeffrey said: “This is more good news for Edinburgh Airport and for the city itself. We welcome Aer Arann`s commitment to this new route.”

“Over the last 18 months, BAA`s efforts to promote new direct services from Scotland to points across Europe and beyond have proved tremendously successful. We look forward to further successes in the new year and have committed the investment necessary to ensure that Scotland`s direct international route network continues to grow, serving the business community and the tourism industry.”

The new service was launched on Friday 19th December 2003 and will see one flight a day between Edinburgh and Galway, departing Ireland at 1945 and leaving Edinburgh at 2135. Fares on the new route begin at £129 including tax.

Jennifer Mooney, Aer Arann`s commercial manager, said: “Aer Arann is delighted to be announcing its third UK service from Galway Airport. Initially we planned to operate a Galway Prestwick service, however following a more detailed analysis of passenger traffic to Scotland, Edinburgh is a more popular short-break destination.”

Aer Arann currently operates more than 90 flights per week in and out of Galway Airport on three routes to Dublin, Luton and Manchester.
