Markus Kopp (39) has been appointed director of the Central German Airports Group with immediate effect. With professional training as an aviation salesman and a business degree under his belt, his most recent position was head of Lufthansa’s Central for Aviation Services & Human Resources Office. Volkmar Stein, the previous Director, has been appointed President by the Supervisory Board with effect from May 1, 2006, and will retire at the end of the year.

“Markus Kopp is an experienced, respected manager in the aviation industry. His profile will enable us to continue the path charted by Volkmar Stein and carry on aligning the group members as European players,” said Willi Hermsen, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Central German Airports Group.

The Central German Airports Group is a publicly owned company. Its purpose is to develop the airports in central Germany to meet both current demand and future needs. The group’s subsidiaries include Flughafen Leipzig/Halle GmbH and Flughafen Dresden GmbH (the operating companies running Leipzig/Halle Airport and Dresden Airport) as well as PortGround GmbH and EasternAirCargo GmbH. In 2005, the Central German Airports Group generated turnover of 83 million euro from a total of 74,000 take-offs and landings, 3.9m passengers and 22,600 tonnes of freight.
