Despite the recession and feverish promotion by home tourist boards heralding the age of the staycation, Cheapflights.co.uk reveals thousands of Brits are planning a holiday this summer outside the Eurozone. A survey conducted by Cheapflights.co.uk, the UK’s leading flight price comparison website where you can search and compare the best deals on the market, found only 11 per cent of British travellers committed to holidaying more in the UK in 2009.
“The recession is definitely having an impact on the selection of holiday destinations,” says Francesca Ecsery, General Manager of Cheapflights.co.uk. “Brits are shunning the idea of camping in the UK and the traditional European resort holiday for destinations further afield.”
Countries such as Tunisia and Turkey feature strongly in holiday plans with 66 per cent of those surveyed opting for holidays outside the Eurozone in 2009. Searches on Cheapflights.co.uk to Tunisia are up 68 percent and Turkey 39 percent year-on-year.
“Air ticket price is not necessarily the costliest part of a journey,” says Ecsery. “Holidaymakers must include spending at their destination in their budgets. Spending outside the Eurozone remains great value for money, even with the Pound bouncing back against the Euro.”
The survey received feedback from 4,776 respondents, 53% female and 47% male.
