To provide better service for its passengers traveling to and from Germany, China Airlines will inaugurate a codeshare cooperation with Deutsche Bahn AG (DB), the German Rail, beginning October 30. China Airlines will place its codes on DB high-speed rail lines between Frankfurt Airport to seven cities in Germany. This is the first codeshare cooperation between a Taiwanese airline and a German rail company.

According to the codeshare arrangement, China Airlines will place the CI code on seven DB rail lines that originate from Frankfurt Airport. The seven cities served by the codeshare are Hamburg, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Hanover, Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart. In the future, passengers between Taiwan and Germany can purchase CAL and DB tickets at the same time. With seamless connections at Frankfurt Airport, travel between Taiwan, Frankfurt and seven German domestic cities can be easier than usual. Through the CI-DB codeshare arrangement, passengers can enjoy high quality rail service at preferential fare, which is less expensive than domestic air connections. Besides, passengers on this codeshare service can enjoy the access to DB VIP lounges inside the train stations.

To promote the new service, passengers traveling on the DB codeshare trains will enjoy free upgrades if purchase the tickets by October 15. Group passengers will get free snacks if purchase the tickets by November 23. Passengers who book the codeshare service in Taiwan will receive 3,000 bonus mileage for Dynasty Class, and 1,500 bonus mileage for Economy Class by the end of this year.

Due to immigration and customs regulations, passengers using the codeshare service can not check their baggage to the final destinations in Germany, nor can they enjoy through check-in. Mileage on DB rail lines can not be accumulated for Dynasty Flyer members. Passengers on the new service will find convenient ground transportation, via shuttle bus or Skyline, at the Frankfurt Airport when connecting between air and rail at different Terminal buildings.

Thanks to the advanced rail network in Germany, it becomes a trendy travel pattern for DB to cooperate with airlines on a codeshare basis. Currently, DB has codeshare arrangements with American Airlines, Air Portugal and All Nippon Airways, in addition to China Airlines. China Airlines also inked codeshare cooperation with Delta Air Lines, Alitalia, Thai Airways, Garuda Indonesia and Vietnam Airlines.
