Costa Favolosa dry-docked in Trieste and preparing to make her debut

Costa Favolosa, the new flagship of Europe’s number one cruise company, is dry-docked in the Port of Trieste until mid-May. The dry-docking provides a special preview of the new addition to the fleet for all of Trieste’s residents, who are also invited to join the Costa Favolosa’s spectacular inaugural event on 2 July 2011 in Piazza Unita d’Italia.

During her stay in Trieste, the ship, built by Fincantieri in Marghera, will have her hull coated and cleaned in preparation for the sea trials scheduled for late May. The sea trials will put the Costa Favolosa through her paces in the open sea, with a series of tests on the ship’s systems, machinery and engines.

The Costa Favolosa, weighing 114,500 gross tonnage and with accommodation for up to 3,800 guests, will be the largest Italian-flagged vessel and a symbol of Italian-made excellence plying the seas of the world. Her naming event, open to the public and the city of Trieste, will be a tribute to Italy, and is being staged with the support and assistance of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Administration, the Trieste Provincial Administration, the Municipality of Trieste, the local Port Authority and the Prefecture.
