Bed is best for homesick Brits

Creature comfort tops the list of things you miss when travelling

While we all love a good holiday, a new survey has revealed that there is no substitute for a good night’s sleep even when travelling. Topping the list of things people miss when away from home was ‘my own bed’, beating family into second place for one-in-five Brits in a study commissioned by holiday rentals website

The site surveyed 2,000 British adults to investigate the things we would most like to have with us on holiday or whilst travelling. Other items in the top ten, following behind the basic need for a good night’s sleep included pets, friends and internet.

Perhaps unsurprisingly for a sample of Brits abroad, ‘a decent cup of tea’ polled sixth in the list. However, ‘daily routine’ was an unexpected entry at number five, perhaps revealing an innate need for stability in our everyday lives.

Radek Dobrolecki, Director of comments: “Do we ever fully switch off? Our findings might suggest otherwise, showing that it’s difficult for Brits to break away from their daily lives of routine and technology. Encouragingly however, what is most prevalent is the need for a good night’s sleep and some relaxation on holiday as we squeeze more and more into our everyday lives.

“Increasingly people are finding that renting private accommodation when travelling is a way of experiencing home comforts in a way not possible when staying in a hotel. The launch of our new website will help people get a genuine home from home experience.”

2. Family
