Domestic tourism up 14% in the UK

The ‘UK Tourism Statistics’ report recently launched by the Tourism Alliance shows that expenditure by tourists is at an record high of £125 billion and comes off the back of a 14% growth in domestic tourism and a new VisitEngland survey of day visitors which indicates that expenditure on daytrips is now almost £54bn per annum. This really positive news means that there is a real urgency for tourism suppliers to ensure that all their visitors really engage with the destination so that they tell all their friends about their experiences, as well as come back themselves.

One of the elements essential for all accommodation suppliers to offer a guest is a diverse selection of information on top attractions, destinations, places to eat and drink to close by. Take One Media’s new SelectOne website, launched this week, gives this audience access to over 500 brochure titles nationwide twice a year. The leaflets and brochures they choose to order are sent free of charge to the accommodation for display and use by their guests.

The website also gives latest news on what’s happening in tourism, and offers the facility to sign up for updates on local events, competitions and featured regions, where it gives information on the best things to do.

The growth in numbers of visitors also means that tourist attractions must also ensure coverage in as many tourism establishments as they can. Take One has over 10,000 literature display stands nationwide in many of the bigger hotels and other outlets like Motorways, Airports and Railway stations, but by choosing SelectOne this coverage can be extended by supplying information to a further 15,000 smaller hotels, B&Bs, guesthouses pubs and restaurants.

Take One Managing Director Philippa Harris says: “Take One e-mails all 15,000 of these accommodation providers twice a year – once before Easter and again before the summer peak. With London 2012 and The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee approaching, the demand for information is likely to increase again on 2012.

“The new website has been developed to support these smaller hotels. Ordering is easy and brochures quickly delivered. Together with the extra news features that we have added we are hoping that many will quickly find it a ‘must use’ website.”
