Eastern Airways introduces new Cardiff – Aberdeen link

From 4 January 2011, Eastern Airways, which operates more flights from Aberdeen Airport than any other airline, will offer daily weekday and Sunday services from Cardiff to Aberdeen via Newcastle. Flights will significantly reduce journey times compared to other air, road or rail options.

Weekday scheduled services will depart Cardiff at 7.30am and arrive in Aberdeen at 10.25am, while flights leave Aberdeen at 4.05pm, arriving in Cardiff at 6.40pm.

Sunday services take off from Cardiff at 7.05pm, arriving in Aberdeen at 9.20pm. From Aberdeen, flights leave at 4.25pm and arrive in Cardiff at 6.40pm.

Roger Hage, Eastern Airways’ ground operations manager, said: "Aberdeen is Europe’s energy capital and our link from South Wales to North East Scotland will be of significant benefit to offshore workers. From New Year we’ll be offering the fastest transport link to Aberdeen from Cardiff, which will save business and leisure travellers valuable time and strengthen business connections."

Patrick Duffy, managing director at Cardiff Airport, added: "We know there is demand for an Aberdeen service from the region and we are pleased that Eastern Airways has recognised this and decided to further expand their offer from Cardiff with such a valuable connection. We hope the local community will support the route which will save time for both business and leisure travellers."

All passengers departing from Aberdeen Airport with Eastern Airways have access to its dedicated business lounge.

Also known as the Granite City, Aberdeen is also the gateway to the Grampian region with the world’s only malt whisky trail, including eight distilleries. It has many fine castles and is ideal for golfing holidays and walking breaks, especially with its mountainous and costal scenery.

Eastern Airways has been operating from Cardiff Airport since 2006 and provides Wales business travellers with two flights each weekday to Newcastle and last month started a new Sunday service. The Cardiff to Newcastle service also offers onward connections to Stavanger in the South West of Norway.

Formed 12 years ago, Humberside-based Eastern Airways initially built its network of scheduled services around the North Sea offshore industry with flights up the east coast of England to Aberdeen. The airline is the UK’s second largest regional carrier and has a fleet of 30 aircraft flying from 21 airports in the UK, Ireland, Norway and France.
