Newcastle’s most punctual airline scores a hat trick

Eastern Airways rated the Newcastle airport’s best on-time performer

Eastern Airways, which provides six routes to key cities from its Newcastle hub, has for the third year in a row been rated the airport’s best on-time performer. The UK regional airline primarily serves the north east business community with schedules tailored to save travellers valuable time. It was again Newcastle International Airport’s top scheduled airline for punctuality ahead of carriers including flybe, easyJet, British Airways, KLM, Ryanair and Wideroe.

Nearly 8,500 flights were operated by Eastern Airways between January 2008 and December 2008 from Newcastle. The latest Civil Aviation Authority punctuality figures analysed by on-line aviation analysts flightontime.info for the same period, revealed that nearly 90% of the airline’s flights left within 15 minutes of the scheduled departure time. If any delays were experienced by passengers at Newcastle, they only averaged around 6½ minutes.

Roger Hage, Eastern Airways’ ground services manager, said: “To be Newcastle’s number one airline for punctuality for a third successive year is an excellent achievement and is down to the efforts of all staff involved. Our passengers are used to on-time flights and high levels of service and it’s our job to maintain consistent high standards to meet their expectations.”

Eastern Airways has been providing scheduled flights from Newcastle for six years with departures to Southampton, Cardiff, Birmingham, Aberdeen, Isle of Man and Stavanger in Norway. Up to 50 staff are employed by the airline at Newcastle to help support its operation.

Passengers flying with Eastern Airways can use a dedicated fast track security channel to avoid any queues at security search. Customers can also check-in just 30 minutes before departure. The airline operates over 800 flights a week using a fleet of 30 regional aircraft from 16 UK and European airports.
