Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC ) has announced a series of measures designed to consolidate business as  it nears its target of zero operational funding for 2003. Included in its latest marketing package are a number of sales missions to the UK and Europe, an autumn programme of educational fam trips, additional front-line sales staff and a new exhibition stand to be launched at Meetings & Incentive Travel Show in London.

EICC has confounded even the most optimistic forecasts in its seven-year life. Business projections prior to opening had always assumed that there would be an on-going operational funding requirement of up to £1.5m each year. However, consistently, since opening, this requirement has reduced due to the increasing levels of business and cost-saving and energy efficiency programmes. This trend is set to continue in the second half of 2002 and the first quarter of 2003 and it will project EICC into being operationally profitable.

Senior Sales Team Leader, Lesley Stephen was buoyant at the prospect of a hectic end of year. “Everyone has operational profit within their sights. There is a real buzz about the place. People can now see us achieving something that seemed unattainable just a few years ago”.

“We have successfully developed our strategy over the last seven years. Now we are looking to extend this in the next phase of our operation by adding another two top-flight sales people. Over-and-above this, we will continue to bring top agents to the City to see what Scotland, Edinburgh and the EICC can offer”.

Much of the EICC`s international business comes from northern Europe, so the sales missions for June, October and November will concentrate on Brussels – for corporate, association and government business.

The new exhibition stand at the Meetings & Incentive Travel Show will be the first time in two years that the EICC has established an independent exhibition voice – and the first time ever at M&IT. Aimed at enhancing and complementing the nearby generic Scottish Convention Bureau stand, EICC`s new exhibition stand will focus on taking the EICC experience onto the road.

Lesley Stephen continued: “We felt the time was right for both ourselves and our partners in Scotland to develop our marketing strategies and increase our presence. We have reached an important crossroads and we are confident that we can achieve our goals together”.
