Irish travellers in search for Autumn sun

Egypt and Miami top destinations searched for in Ireland

The end of the summer marked an upsurge in Irish holidaymakers seeking last minute sun and taking advantage of the great autumns bargains on offer according to the latest figures from the Hotels.com monthly ‘hot list’. The list which compares destinations experiencing the biggest growth in searches compared to the same period the previous year shows that searches for Hurghada in Egypt, Miami and Fuerteventura are on the up by 490 per cent, 488 per cent, and 441 per cent respectively.

The list also revealed that international business travel may still be on the rise for Irish travellers with Shanghai (+372%), Kuala Lumpur (+304%), and Hong Kong (+288%) featuring on the hot list since June this year.

Irish travellers continued their love affair with Egypt in October with three of the country’s cities making the top 20, Hurghaha (+490%), Sharm El Sheikh (+273%), and Cairo (+267%).

South East Asia also emerged once again as a favourite destination for Irish travellers with Bali (+345%), Phuket (+309%), Bangkok (+279%) and Pattaya (+274%) in this month’s hot list.

Alison Couper, Communications Director at Hotels.com, said: “Following the rather wet summer that Ireland experienced, it is no surprise that sunny destinations like Egypt, Miami, Fuerteventura and Bali are on the rise for Irish travellers. The figures also show that Irish holidays makers are planning to travel further afield with a number of long haul leisure destinations making the top 20.”
