Following type certification by the European Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) at the end of May, Airbus<.>` latest and largest airliner the A340-600 received type certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This is the culmination of the A340-600s certification campaign and sets the scene for entry into service of this new aircraft with customers all over the world.

The A340-600, launched in 1997, typically carries 380 passengers in a three class configuration over distances of up to 7,500 nm/13,900 km. It enters service shortly with Virgin Atlantic Airways.

On Monday, the FAA also granted complete certification for Airbus` new single-aisle cockpit doors that meet all recently introduced and pre-existing safety and security standards. The cockpit doors protect the crew from unauthorised entry and feature reinforced attachments, a reinforced and bullet-proof main door panel, an escape panel, electrical door latching, an electronic entry pad in the cabin and a warning light and buzzer in the cockpit.

We are delighted to have been granted these certifications which, once again, demonstrate the value and quality of our aircraft and services, said Noel Forgeard, Airbus President and Chief Executive Officer.
