MADRID-FITUR 2000. FITUR<.>, the international travel exhibition of Spain, celebrated its 20th year with new records of participation, including an impressive representation from the tourist industry of Greece.

For the first time FITUR occupied all eight halls of the Juan Carlos 1 Exhibition Center, with a gross exhibition area covering 100,000 square meters. There were 7,933 companies from 170 countries in attendance, representing every aspect of tourism, and attracting a record high of 64,350 professionals.

The first FITUR, held in 1981, had some 1,500 exhibitors from 37 countries and attracted close to 3,000 professional visitors, and had 358 accredited journalists.

FITUR 2000 had 5,034 accredited journalists from around the world. Reflecting the growing trend of specialized tourism, the seventh edition of FITUR Active was held in conjunction with FITUR, including exhibits and representatives from the fields of scuba diving, horseback trails, mountain biking, light airplanes, photographic safaris, theme parks, nature trails, archeological tours and special celebrations.
