Edinburgh Airport is to have a new daily service to one of Britain’s fastest growing business destinations next year thanks to the latest expansion from Scotland’s airline flyglobespan.

The Edinburgh-based airline is to launch a daily service to Bournemouth from next March.

This will be the eighth destination offered on a daily basis by flyglobespan from Edinburgh as the airline’s expansion from the capital continues.

They will also be flying daily to Geneva, Stansted, Faro, Palma, Malaga, Alicante and Nice while offering frequent services to a variety of other destinations including the recently launched Ibiza and Murcia routes.

In addition the company have confirmed that they will be continuing their service to Rome next year.

Bournemouth will be the second UK airport covered daily by flyglobespan from Edinburgh. The success of their Stansted service has promoted the decision to service another highly popular business destination in England’s bustling south east.

This is a really important domestic link to the south of England for Edinburgh, said flyglobespan chairman Tom Dalrymple. It is a densely populated area with a thriving business community.

As with all our daily routes, that frequency gives total flexibility to travellers and is a key factor in servicing the market correctly.

We look forward to the launch of what is potentially a very exciting route.

Richard Jeffrey, managing director of Edinburgh Airport, warmly welcomed the new route.

This further expansion by flyglobespan is a clear reflection of the confidence with which the airline business views Edinburgh Airport.

This Edinburgh-based airline is an increasingly important player in the aviation industry and should be seen as a good advert for Scotland,
said Jeffrey.

His welcoming words were echoed by his Bournemouth counterpart.

This new route is great news. Edinburgh is one of our `most requested` destinations and I am delighted that we can now offer a direct flight to and from the Scottish capital.

I am confident that it will be a great success and look forward to welcoming the inaugural flight into Bournemouth next Spring,
said Peter Duffy, Managing Director, Bournemouth Airport.

The airline also announced the launch of a new Glasgow destination with the start of a weekly service to Ibiza – beginning next March.

The company report a huge demand for their recently launched daily Glasgow –Orlando service which starts next June.

We have been delighted at the response to this, says Dalrymple. Bookings have been very encouraging.

Flyglobespan are currently finalising plans for more Scottish routes for next summer and they will be announced in the near future.

We have some other exciting plans for next year, admits Dalrymple. We are currently sorting out the technicalities of organising routes to some destinations that we are sure will appeal to the Scottish public.
