It seems the Greek market was really looking for a product like Germanwings, Dr. Joachim Klein stated in an interview. With 4 weekly flights, leaving Athens at 15.45 hrs, at a price starting from of 19€ one way and offering a safe and high quality operation with leather seats, a wider middle seat and a wide range of beverages and snacks available for reasonable prices, Germanwings found an appropriate positioning in the Greek market, Mr. Schoettes added. In addition the low cost carrier offers inflight entertainment such as air show, audio and video program. The pricing policy is based on a sophisticated yield management.

Reservations through Internet and Greek Call Center

The first year of operation 90% of the reservations have been done through Internet. However, Germanwings also offers reservation through a call center for passengers who prefer personal contacts or have some additional requests or questions. This service will be charged with an additional fee of 5€. Travel agents with Amadeus access are also able to do reservations.

Special key account rates for companies

Germanwings is offering an interesting product not only to tourist travelers who like to travel on low budget, but also to companies being interested in special corporate rates for tickets to 22 European destinations. The offered tickets are flexible and refundable.

Germanwings have started operation in October 2002. Since then the young German low cost carrier has established a route network of 22 European destinations and is counting more than 1 Million passengers on board their Airbus A 319 and A320. Germanwings is a 100% subsidiary of Eurowings, one of the largest European regional carriers, in which Lufthansa German Airline has got a 24,9% stake.
