Glasgow and the SECC wins another major conference for 2010

Glasgow’s reputation as a premier city for conferences and events has been strengthened following a successful bid for Eventia’s summer conference in 2010.

Summer Eventia is the annual conference by Eventia, the official trade body of the events and live marketing industry, and has been brought to Glasgow through a partnership between Glasgow City Marketing Bureau and the Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre (SECC).

The conference being held at the SECC is expected to bring around 350 delegates to the city for the three-day event next July, and will potentially lead to 1,000 hotel rooms being booked over the period.

Molly Doheny, head of the Convention Bureau at Glasgow City Marketing Bureau said: “Winning the Summer Eventia conference in 2010 is a great coup for the city.  We are looking forward to welcoming the delegates to Glasgow next summer and have already begun planning an entertaining and educational programme that will showcase Glasgow’s strengths to this highly influential audience”.

Ben Goedegebuure, Director of Sales at the SECC said:  “I’ve long since been an admirer of Summer Eventia having attended a few of them myself so naturally I am delighted that the SECC will to be the home of Summer Eventia 2010.

Our firm track record in holding events is what makes the SECC such a successful venue and the host to some of the biggest events in Europe. On behalf of the team here at the SECC we look forward to showing the delegates of Summer Eventia some great Scottish hospitality.”

A number of major conferences have already chosen Glasgow as host for their event in 2010, including the European Association for Palliative Care in June and the World Parkinson Congress, which will welcome 4,000 delegates over four days at the SECC in September and October.
