GolfSwitch confirms Spanish agreement

GolfSwitch, the online real time tee-time distribution network, has extended the existing agreement with GolfSpain, Spain’s main golf software and tourism operator, to exclusively provide online connectivity for Spanish golf courses within the portfolio.

An agreement was reached at last week’s International Golf Travel Market, in Valencia, between Ricardo Pascual, managing director of Golfspain and Jo Maes, GolfSwitch’s director of European operations, to extend the existing contract to the end of 2013.

This agreement will see all the Spanish golf courses on GolfSpain software continue to benefit from the GolfSwitch online technology and worldwide distribution network. It will also allow the Spanish courses not using the software to feature on the GolfSpain website and tee-time engine, after many Spanish courses enquired of GolfSwitch and GolfSpain what other engines could be made available for them to market themselves to the network.

Ricardo Pascual, GolfSpain’s managing director, said: “As a software company we had been looking to build this facility into our package for golf clubs.

“But it was only when we met with GolfSwitch that we realised we would be better off benefiting from their experience – specifically with regards to online connectivity – to provide our courses with the best engines available, plus being able to offer them added distribution through the GolfSwitch network.

“This has worked so well for both parties that we did see no reason not to continue our partnership. It has been great working with a company like GolfSwitch and we are both in it for the right reasons.”

GolfSpain is the country’s largest golf software provider with 257 courses, around 100 of which are already online with more to follow after IGTM. Its services cover not only the Spanish mainland but all the islands: Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Mallorca and others. As a consequence, GolfSpain is one of Spain’s largest providers of golf rounds.

Maes added: “Working with a prestigious company like GolfSpain allows us to leverage that relationship to our resellers and bring more and more of them online as they all want to be able to book Spanish rounds live and in real time.

“This is a facility most of our competitors aren’t able to offer. This agreement sees us adding more technology to assist Spanish courses in their online marketing.”

Utilising experience built up over the last 12 years, GolfSwitch has cemented its place as the market leader in tee-time distribution by powering white-label electronic tee-time reservations for thousands of golf courses, travel agents, hotels and resorts, tour operators, visitor bureaux, and more than 35,000 websites, including recent European additions Marriott Hotels, Pestana, the PGAs of Europe and some of the major European airlines.

The network provides courses with the flexibility to sell rack rate, special, discount, corporate or holiday rounds to a local, regional, national or global audience – while still maintaining total control over inventory distribution, pricing and policies at every level.

Maes added: “As we see other so-called ‘online’ booking parties entering the European market, we rest assured that the GolfSwitch business model of maintaining the courses’ price integrity, coupled with superior and innovative technology, is the only model that will equally benefit both the golfers and the courses.”
