The site recorded a total of more than 15 million visitors in 2001, with a daily average of 50,000. Since its 1996 launch, the site has undergone major changes and expansions. Each year it is easier to use, and new products are added. The site was fully redesigned in 2001, and new functions were installed.
Last year the Fly & Drive product was made available on the web site. This allows customers to buy an Iberia ticket and hire an Avis rental car at a substantial discount in a single transaction. Another new feature on the site is La Tienda de Iberia or The Iberia Shop, an on-line merchant selling more than 400 high-quality domestic and foreign items, including luggage, cameras, travel guides, model airplanes, electronic goods, and other products relating to travel.
In December, 2001, a new service was made available on the web site, allowing customers to purchase an electronic ticket (ciberticket) for domestic flights. This ticket drastically simplifies bookings on all domestic routes with the sole exception of the walk-on Madrid-Barcelona Puente Aereo shuttle. Customers need only buy their tickets on-line from www.iberia.com and show their ID to pick up their boarding cards before the flight. No paper is used in the process.
With three star products, Entrando en Pista (Entering Runway), Despegue on line (On-line Takeoff), and Elige y vuela (Choose and Fly), in just five years www.iberia.com has become one of the most visited web sites in Spain. The page features a Customer Help Service facility to deal with any problems or doubts that may arise.
Outside Spain, Iberia also operates web sites in The United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, and the United States.
Today, under the heading A que esperas? Embarcate (What are you waiting for? Come aboard!), www.iberia.com lists special offers for flights this winter to more than 100 destinations on the Iberia route network.
