Spain`s national carrier Iberia<.> is looking into the possibility of cooperating with private Greek firms Aegean Airlines, Air Greece and Cronus.

According to the Spanish firm`s manager in Greece, Antonio Medina, an agreement likely to be signed in March relates to the transfer of Iberia passengers from Athens to destinations in northern Greece. A competitive pricing policy will accompany the deal. However, there is a high likelihood that Iberia will introduce direct flights to Thessaloniki by 2001, in a bid to raise its profile in Greece.

We chose these particular carriers, and not Olympic Airways, because their base is Athens international airport (East) – where planes from Spain also land, Medina said.

He pointed out that Iberia was in the process of upgrading its fleet with new aircraft.
