After having reduced the capacity due to the September 11 event last year, Lufthansa<.> operates during the summer period 2002 again with the wide body aircraft Airbus A 300-600 on the route Athens-Frankfurt.

As a consequence to the increased demand already last year in March, Lufthansa has decided to operate the A300-600. After September 11, 2001, and the sudden decrease in demand, Lufthansa reduced capacity accordingly.

With the beginning of the summer timetable 2002 the Airbus 300-600 is on the route again with three daily flights from Athens to Frankfurt. Instead of 150 to 180 seats of an Airbus A320/321, which has been flying on this route since November 2001, the Airbus A300-600 offers 270 seats on the two aisle aircraft.

The demand has nearly reached the level of last year Mr. Michael Suesser stated on a press conference on Thursday, May 23rd at the Sofitel at Athens International Airport. Also considering the first 4 months of 2002 we are very satisfied with our results: Lufthansa sales on routes between Greece and Germany increased by more than 8% compared to last years figures, while overall there was a slight decrease in the Greek market. Therefore we are confident that this is the size of aircraft appropriate for the Greek market. In coordination with the two daily flights to Munich operated with Airbus 320/321 these three daily flights to Frankfurt with the wide body aircraft are a perfect combination for the Greek market, he added.
