According to the data provided by the Slovenian Spas Community, there has been a 2.6 percent increase in the number of guests that visited Slovenian spas the first eight months of this year as compared to last year. Out of the total number of arrivals in this eight-month period, there were 2 percent fewer domestic tourists but 10.4 percent more foreign tourists, making up 40.3 percent of all guests visiting Slovenian spas, compared to 38.5 percent this time last year.

This growth is the result of the high quality service provided at the spas, as well as successful promotional efforts of the Slovenian health resort industry on foreign markets.

The forces of globalization, which have affected world tourism, have also touched upon the new European Wellness Project, which aims to bring together several Austrian, Hungarian and Slovene health resorts in marketing and promotional efforts.

This unique joint promotional project aims to breakthrough into tertiary markets namely Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Great Britain, with potential aid coming from the EU budget. The project has had the best response in Austria, where all health resorts have opted to participate, and similarly positive in Hungary, where most responses have also been favorable. However in Slovenia only two resorts have thus far joined the project team: Olimia Thermal Spa and Dolenjske Toplice Health Resort.
