Boris Kopecny, who has taken over as director of CSA<.> Czech Airlines for Greece and Cyprus, is a veteran of the airline who is familiar with all facets of its operation. This is as the result of his extensive experience in having had assignments in maintenance, services, ticketing, reservations and sales since he first joined the company in 1987. CSA Czech Airlines has been his only employment since he finished his formal schooling.

In 1994 he was appointed manager of operations in St. Petersburg, followed after a four year period in Russia, with assignment at headquarters in Prague until the present.

As far as Greece is concerned, the new manager has only had a week`s vacation exposure to the country.

Kopency is optimistic about the future development of the traffic between the two counties as evidenced by planned increased service between Thessaloniki and Prague, but not only to the Czech Republic, but also in transit to destinations beyond, in Europe and elsewhere, such as Scandinavia.

Greeks have been utilizing CSA Czech Airlines to Prague and for transit elsewhere. The airline carried 11,757 Greeks to Prague on its scheduled flights in 25 percent increase in 2000 has been anticipating.

On Czech traffic to Greece this year there were a dozen destinations in Greece served by charter flights from Prague, to Patras, Prevesa, Kavala, and including the islands of Crete (at Chania and Herakleion), Rhodes, Zakinthos, Cephalonia, and Corfu.

The new manager foresees a modest seven percent general increase for 2001, for traffic both ways. Incidentally, he notes that Czech tourists have no major complaints about holidays in Greece.

The airline, founded back in June 1923, is now an all-Boeing, Airbus and ATR operator, including for its charter flights. At present the CSA aircraft numbers 255, with an average age of five years. The airline links Prague with 55 destinations abroad. Discover the World Marketing is the GSA for CSA Czech Airlines in Greece.
