New Newcastle – Cardiff Sunday service to be introduced

Eastern Airways is launching a new Sunday service on its route from Newcastle International Airport to Cardiff, offering business and leisure travellers a new weekend option.

The new Sunday service operated by the UK regional airline will start on 31 October 2010 and will assist business travellers heading to South Wales for an early Monday start and also leisure travellers taking a weekend trip. The introduction of a Sunday service also follows flybe’s decision to withdraw its services from the route.

Eastern Airways already provides two flights each weekday from Newcastle to Cardiff and has been operating the service since April 2006.

Sunday flights will depart from Newcastle at 5.35pm, arriving in Cardiff at 6.40pm, while services leave Cardiff at 7.05pm, landing in Newcastle at 8.10pm.

Cardiff is a vibrant city, which is home to Europe’s largest waterfront development – Cardiff Bay and, also has business links with the north east in the petrochemical, pharmaceutical, utilities, finance, law, insurance, manufacturing and construction industry sectors.

Roger Hage, Eastern Airways’ ground operations manager, said: “Our new Sunday service will enable leisure travellers to take a weekend break or visit friends and relatives in South Wales and arrive refreshed from our short flight. Business travellers can also arrive on Sunday in advance of an early Monday morning meeting having avoided a lengthy car or rail journey.”

Cardiff Airport is the gateway to Cardiff city centre, Swansea, Newport and the South Wales Valleys. Nearly 500 international companies are based in Wales and the skyline of its capital city, Cardiff, is dominated by the Millennium Stadium. The city is ideal for shopping and has over 70 restaurants with a wide variety of international cuisine, while Europe’s largest waterfront at Cardiff Bay offers a wealth of leisure activities. Elsewhere, the country has over 700 miles of beaches and over 200 golf courses.

All passengers flying with Eastern Airways from Newcastle can use the dedicated fast track security channel to avoid any queues at security search.

Newcastle is a key hub for the airline, which first started a network of services from the airport seven years ago.
