North west tourist board appoints new chairman

The North West Tourist Board has appointed Colin Doyle as its new Chairman…

The North West Tourist Board has appointed Colin Doyle as its new Chairman,in recognition of his long standing work for the region`s tourism industry.

Colin lives in Warrington, and has held several roles of responsibility within the Board over the past 6 years including Director and Vice-Chairman. He is also Chairman of the North West Tourism Industry Forum.

Colin started his career in Tourism back in the 1970`s, with student travel and has been involved in domestic and inbound tourism for over 25 years. Throughout his career, he has worked in short-break, coaching, hotel and restaurant tourism businesses. He is Company Secretary of the Wigan based,Countrywide Holiday Association and is also currently a member of the Defra Rural Tourism Task Group and the North West Cultural Consortium Stake Holder Group. He has previously served on the ABTA UK Tourism Committee, BITOA Executive and on Government Tourism Sub Committees and has also with for the Department of Culture Media and Sport.

Dorothy Naylor, Chief Executive of The North West Tourist Board Colin Doyle brings a wealth of private sector experience to the North West Tourist Board and I am sure that he will make a significant contribution to the direction of the Board`s activities. His responsibilities will include the strengthening of our partnership with the Northwest Development Agency. His skills and experience will also be vital assisting with the creation of the new Destination Management Organisations (DMO`s). The Board unanimously agreed to his appointment as Chairman.

Commenting on his appointment, Colin Doyle said: I am fully aware of the difficult months ahead of us, and the many changes taking place in the tourism industry across the Region and on a National scale. It is vital that the Board informs and involves the thousands of tourism businesses in the North West, to ensure we maximise the benefits of these changes, and continue to grow our important industry. Tourism is vital to our region and I look forward to working with the NWTB in these changing times.
