Passenger record for Norwegian in May

The total number of passengers flown in May was 946,000, an increase of 24 per cent compared to May 2008. This is the highest number of passengers during one single month in the history of the company. “The traffic development has been more than satisfactory for Norwegian so far in 2009. May constitute yet another month with significant growth. The fact that the passenger growth is set ahead of the busy summer season is a strong vote of confidence from our passengers, and a result which we are very pleased with," says CEO Bjorn Kjos.

The previous record was set in July 2008. This month’s figures outnumber the previous record by more than 45 000 passengers. A large proportion of the growth in May stem from the new routes in Denmark, as well as strong domestic growth in Norway. More than 140 000 passengers flew with Norwegian to or from airports in Denmark in May. The domestic growth in Norway was close to 100 000 passengers- an increase of 34 per cent.

The load factor for the Group in May was 77 per cent, a decrease of 2 percentage points compared to May 2008. In Sweden, the load factor remained stable at 79 per cent. The Group estimates a yield around NOK 0.59 for May 2009, the same as for May 2008.

In May 2009 the Group operated 99.8 per cent of its scheduled flights, whereof 87.1 per cent departed on time. Compared to April, which was the first time Norwegian reported these figures, punctuality increased by 1.1 percentage points.
