Qype unveiled its new Spanish office in the heart of Madrid, and announced the appointment of Carolina Cobos as Market Development Director for Spain.
Qype’s expansion into the Spanish market is a key part of the company’s ambitious plans to further accelerate business growth and push European awareness of the brand in 2011.
The opening of the Madrid office means Qype now has a dedicated presence in four countries across Europe; Germany (Hamburg), France (Paris), the UK (London) and Spain.
Qype’s Spanish website launched in 2008 and with check-ins, mobile downloads and reviews growing substantially over the last three years, the company identified Spain as an important growth market.
"We’re convinced that the Spanish market has huge potential for us", says Ian Brotherston, Qype’s CEO, "In fact, our reviews from Spanish users have increased by 300 per cent in the last year and the number of users has grown by 500 per cent, so there is clearly huge confidence in us."
Spanish consumers already benefit from direct access to over 2 million reviews and recommendations of shops and services across 166,000 cities worldwide, and the market development director will ensure the Spanish Qype community continues to grow.

The launch of the Spanish office and Carolina’s appointment come hot on the heels of the company’s dedicated Portuguese and Dutch sites which went live this summer, along with the first non-European site; Qype Brazil.
Qype is now available in seven different languages and has a presence in 12 countries.
