The names of the three firms to be responsible for ground handling at the new international airport in Spata will not be announced until after the April 9 general elections.
Interest in the tendering process continues to heighten considering that the successful bidders will share in 50 billion drachmas worth of earnings annually, a figure which is set to rise once the airport begins operating.
Of the 12 firms which submitted expressions of interest, Aviapartner Hellas SA, GHI Hellas SA, Goldair Handling SA, Servicar Greece Handling SA, Olympic Airways and Swissport Hellas SA have been shortlisted.
It is expected that the number of travellers using the airport will reach 16 million annually in the first phase, while 12 million currently pass through the existing facility in Hellenikon. Spata is set to host 600 flights a day.
