State support for Samos

A special support programme to boost Samos<.>` tourism industry is to be introduced by the Greek government in the wake of destructive fires on the eastern Aegean island, Development Minister Nikos Christodoulakis recently announced.

Samos authorities and tourism entrepreneurs met with the Hellenic Tourism Organisation earlier this month. The programme involves, in the first instance, the immediate inclusion of Samos in the government`s annual subsidised holiday scheme. The state provides eligible applicants with subsidised vacations.

Secondly, EOT will contribute towards an advertising campaign for the island.

Meeting participants confirmed that none of the isle`s visitors or tourist

installations were endangered by the blazes.
