Munich Airport International’s powerful role in giving Germany’s regions access to the world has been underlined with the Bavarian hub’s second ERA Airport of the Year Award.

Judged by a panel of senior aviation executives, the ERA Airport of the Year Award 2005/6 was presented to Munich’s COO Peter Trautmann at ERA`s Awards Dinner in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Commenting on their decision, the judges said that Munich has a clear strategy that “strongly supports the development of regional airline traffic.” The airport was also said to advance the interests of intra-European air transport through external activities.

Munich Airport was the fastest-growing major hub in Europe over the past year and expects more than 28 million passengers this year. It is Europe/s 8th and the world/s 33rd busiest airport and first won the ERA accolade for 2002/3.

SITA, the global applications provider to the aviation industry, has sponsored the ERA Airport of the Year Award since its inception in 2002. The award was presented by Bruno Frentzel, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing for SITA INC., at the Gothia Towers Hotel as part of ERA’s 25th Anniversary Year General Assembly.

The judges also nominated London City and Cardiff International airports.
