Following an agreement signed in December between Greek parliament speaker Apostolos Kaklamanis and his Italian counterpart Luciano Violante, the festival`s opening is to be co-organised by the two EU member-states.
More than 115 events are to be staged on Symi, Halki, Astypalea, Nisyros, Tilos, Kassos, Karpathos, in Athens, Rhodes, Florence and Freimburg.
The festival ends on Symi with a two-day symposium from September 30-October 1 focusing on local government.
