Fast-growing Europe was cited by Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio, Chairman of the European Cruise Council and of Silversea Cruises, during the recent Cruise Shipping Miami conference as ‘this decade’s El Dorado’.

The European cruise sector overcame the financial crisis and recession with ‘remarkable resilience, skill and success,’ MSC Cruises CEO Pierfrancesco Vago told Miami delegates. The market accounts for 30% of the global share of cruisers and keeps on growing, he said. Vago also noted that cruise capacity in Europe would shoot up a massive 23% this year.

Add that increase in deployment to a source market that reached almost 5.5m passengers in 2010, the fourth straight year of double-digit growth, and the future for Europe is decidedly bright. The UK passed 1.6m cruisers last year, a healthy growth of 6%, followed by Germany, with more than 1.2m and a hefty 19% jump. Italy, Spain and France also posted double-digit increases.

Seatrade Europe conference topics outlined
Against this positive backdrop, an outline of the conference sessions for this September’s Seatrade Europe Cruise & Rivercruise Convention has recently been released. Europe’s cruise and river cruise industries, European rules, newbuilds, onboard hotel innovations, deployment, financing, cruise port development and ship operations are all hot topics to be examined and debated by industry peers at the sixth edition of the event, taking place during what are certainly exciting times for the European cruise industry.

The Seatrade Europe Cruise & Rivercruise Convention, running from 27-29 September 2011 at state-of-the-art convention venue Hamburg Messe, is a major biennial event in the cruise calendar that incorporates conference, exhibition, travel agent programmes and social events during two and a half days of prime business networking opportunity.

Three brand new elements to the show this year; a Supplier Workshop, River Cruise Day and a dedicated Newcomers’ Area on the exhibition floor will all boost Seatrade Europe’s well-established reputation for bringing the entire European cruise market together under one roof. Meyer Werft, Fincantieri, STX France and Neptun Werft will host the Supplier Workshop, bringing in their top buyers to meet one-to-one with companies interested in breaking into or increasing their share of cruise shipbuilding supply.
