As from today the new Sterling is a reality. After the merger with Maersk Air the company will continue to be marketed under the name of Sterling.
The new Sterling is a reality. The authorities have approved the purchase of the commercial activities of Maersk Air A/S by Fons Eignarhaldsfelag hf, Iceland and the merger between Maersk Air and Sterling. The name of the integrated company is Sterling Airlines A/S and, in the future, it will be marketed under the brand Sterling.
Sterling has prepared a detailed integration plan to amalgamate the two companies. The process will take about 18 months and the primary focus is in aligning the company`s organisation, customer service and web pages. For a short period, therefore, customers will continue to experience the Maersk Air logo and colours.
I am very pleased that the agreement is in place. This means that many jobs are now secure and a competitive airline company has been created for the benefit of our customers. Finally we can realise the many possibilities and advances ahead of us. Today all our employees are celebrating the fact that the new Sterling is a reality and the customers on the first flights after the announcement will be offered a glass of champagne, says Sterling CEO Almar Orn Hilmarsson.
Sterling is now the number one low-cost carrier in Scandinavia and number four in Europe. Sterling`s fleet consists of 30 owned or leased aircraft for the transport of 5 million passengers per year.
