The world`s first ocean going luxury resort ever built, the 43.524 ton vessel
The World will sail from the Norwegian port of Trondheim on March the 4th 2002. The first port of call will be Oslo on March 6th followed by Hamburg on March 8th and London on March 10th and 11th, before crossing the Atlantic Ocean to Fort Lauderdale.
In addition the luxury vessel offers 88 spacious guest suites for rent. Of the 110 residences, 80 are already sold and shipowners ResidenSea expects the remaining ones to be sold quickly once the vessel starts on her maiden voyage around the globe.
The World is the brainchild of Norwegian cruise industry veteran Knut Kloster jr., whose father pioneered the modern cruise industry as we know it today out of Miami in the early sixties. The son now pioneers a new seaborn travel segment; the floating home combining the best of luxury cruising and resorts. Or, as he puts it: This is a new lifestyle – to travel the world without leaving your home.
The residences onboard The World ranges from 1,106 to 3,242 sq. ft. (102.8 to 301 sq. meters) and USD 2 to 6.8 million. The vessel takes onboard the first residences in Oslo, Norway 6th March and docks in Hamburg 8th March. She then continues to London (Tilbury) 10th March. She leaves London 12th March for Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale in USA, where she will dock 24th March. The World will be officially christened in New York 19th April.
