With the help of the new equipment, the airport`s control tower will be able to receive information on the movements of all planes in the region, as far as the River Danube.
Air traffic controllers are expected to complete relevant training while the radar will go into operation after all the required checks have been carried out. Testing of the equipment began last November.
The radar was bought as part of the Patroklos programme, which also included radar equipment for the airports of Iraklio, Rhodes and Corfu, and is likely to reduce delays and improve flight safety.
