Thomas Cook and The Co-operative Group to merge shop networks

Thomas Cook and The Co-operative Group are merging their high street travel agencies to create the largest such network in the UK. They will create a new joint subsidiary that will be 70%-owned by Thomas Cook and 30% by The Co-operative Group.

The move will create a chain of 1,204 stores, but both Thomas Cook and The Co-operative Travel will retain their separate brands.The merged entity will not include Thomas Cook’s online travel business, ThomasCook.com, or any of its UK tour operating businesses.
