Latest guide in its ‘Opportunities for Growth’ series, ‘Golf Tourism’

Tourism Intelligence Scotland publishes new Golf Tourism guide

The guide is aimed at golf clubs/courses and tourism businesses, to help them develop innovative products and services that will provide a more enjoyable and more collaborative experience in Scotland for golf visitors.

The guide provides the key facts about golf tourism, who comes to Scotland to play golf and what these golfing visitors want. It also highlights opportunities for tourism businesses, golf clubs and courses looking to get the most out of the visiting golfer market, and outlines the next steps for Scotland and individual businesses.

Top tips for clubs and courses include targeting lapsed members with special offers to encourage them to return, and building in price flexibility, such as tiered membership, to membership fees. Ideas for tourism businesses include collaborating with others, such as providers of local food and drink, retail, accommodation and attractions, to offer golfing visitors the very best authentic experience that their area can offer.

Nick Hunter, Chair of Golf Tourism Scotland said: “The industry has long been waiting for a guide like this. It not only clearly sets out the issues, challenges and opportunities for tourism businesses and golf courses, but backs this up with numerous sound ideas and suggestions to help them work together to make the most of this valuable market to Scotland”.

Andy Salmon, Scottish Golf Development Manager for SGU and SLGA added: “I am delighted that this guide has been published. Golf Tourism will undoubtedly be an invaluable tool for clubs and courses moving forward, as they look to develop visiting golfer products and services at local level”.

The launch of the Golf Tourism guide is the latest initiative from Tourism Intelligence Scotland, which has recently entered an exciting phase of growth enabling it to provide an enhanced range of market intelligence resources for tourism businesses. These resources are free to businesses that have registered their details with TIS.

In particular, the brand new TIS website at tourism-intelligence.co.uk offers a wealth of practical insights and inspirational ideas, hints and tips to help businesses grow and develop. These include: research summaries written in plain English; case studies and best practice stories from the UK and overseas; downloadable practical guides; factsheets on a range of specific themes, Ear to the Ground newsletters; details of events and workshops; and an Exchange Forum, where users can contribute and share their own insights and information.
