Leading price comparison expert dealchecker.co.uk has received their highest ever number of mobile visitors, as more people turn to smartphones and tablet computers to book and plan their holidays.

New figures show that in July, nearly one in eight visitors accessed dealchecker.co.uk from a mobile device. This is a 94 per cent increase in mobile visitors in only six months, as visitors look for cheap holidays and the best travel deals while on the go.

The most common dealchecker.co.uk mobile visitors are iPhone users in London, although taking into account all visitors, regardless of geography, a surprising 49 per cent visit the site on iPads. Apple users make up 82 per cent of all visitors, Android users account for 14 per cent and Blackberry users are a distant third at 3 per cent.

Smartphones and tablets have revolutionised travel for both holidaymakers and industry providers, as social media and a wide range of apps make the experience of booking and discovering more about destinations easier and more connected than ever.

A typical user planning a holiday to Los Angeles might first download the Los Angeles Times’ new interactive travel app for iPad and the accompanying e-book, then book cheap flights to Los Angeles on their tablet computer. They would use the TripIt app to plan the holiday, use TripList to help pack a suitcase, and once in LA, share photos on Instagram and use a local reviews app such as Yelp to find a place to eat. A recent study by comScore also shows that 40 per cent of British smartphone owners use their device to access maps.

Mark Attwell, MD of dealchecker.co.uk, comments: "Smartphones and tablets offer help at every stage of a trip, from research to finding cheap holiday deals to sharing pictures and problem solving on the road.

"We’re glad to see that visitors are using such a variety of devices to access the website – we are working hard to make a great user experience, and ensuring that visitors find the best deal and then quickly and safely book with the many travel companies we’re proud to feature on our site."
