Comprising Vernicos Yachts and construction firm Omiros AE – owned by Stelios Viou, the consortium offered to pay an annual rent of 42 million drachmas over a period of 40 years.
Vernicos Yachts has successfully penetrated the market in marina construction while Omiros AE is active on Chios in building and tourism. The latter owns a hotel on the island and has submitted an application for listing on the Athens bourse.
Works on Chios` marina, which caters to 270 vessels, are complete while 2.4 billion drachmas will be invested in the development of shore facilities. Their plans include a hotel, recreation centre and marina support unit.
The investment programme will enable Chios to acquire a top-class marina and link it with Samos-Rhodes routes.
