Virgin launches flying restaurant

Virgin<.> Atlantic Airways is taking airplane food to new heights with the launch of a virtual restaurant

Virgin<.> Atlantic Airways is taking airplane food to new heights with the launch of a virtual restaurant in the sky for business class travellers flying between Athens and London.

The service has been named `Freedom` as it allows passengers to choose the dish and portion size they desire, while Virgin hopes to cultivate an atmosphere similar to that of a top class restaurant.

As the passenger orders their meal, porcelain tableware is laid. Those who prefer a light meal can enjoy a savoury snack, fruit or sweets. Otherwise, one can choose between three main meals, which include a vegetarian option.

Freshly-ground black pepper is available as are 28 varieties of tea.

Virgin`s on-board wine list covers both white and red varieties as well as numerous aperitifs.

`Freedom` forms part of Virgin`s upgrade of its Athens-London route which is now serviced by the new aircraft Hellenic Beauty.
