FITUR GAY (LGBT) will announce Madrid World Pride 2017

During the weekend – 21 and 22 January – there will be shows for the general public and families, since FITUR GAY (LGBT) is planning together with MADO (Madrid Orgullo – Madrid Pride) different recreational activities and actions as a prelude to Madrid World Pride 2017.

Over 5 days, FITUR GAY (LGBT), in its seventh edition, will fire the starting shot for the staging of Madrid World Pride 2017 with the unconditional support of various institutions. Public and private bodies come together for the largest worldwide normalisation event due to be held from 26 June to 2 July 2017 in Madrid. The presentation will take place at the 37th International Tourism Trade Fair, FITUR 2017, organised by IFEMA from 18 to 22 January 2017 at Feria de Madrid.

7 years ago IFEMA, FITUR and Diversity Consulting International wagered on the GAY (LGBT) segment and have ever since organised what has become the most important GAY (LGBT) Tourism Trade Fair in the world in terms of size, number of exhibitors and visitors. In March 2016 they won, together with the Nobel Peace Prize Winner Archbishop Mr. Desmond Tutu, the IGLTA HONORS Award as “FITUR GAY (LGBT) Best Networking Event in the LGBT World”. In 2017 they are adding their support to the World Pride celebrations, an event that occurs once in a city’s lifetime.

At this seventh staging, FITUR GAY (LGBT) has virtually doubled 100% of the stands given the growing demand from destinations, businesses, hotel chains, airlines, tour operators and others who wish to attract a segment with high purchasing power (given its greater disposable income) and the most deseasonalised one in tourism.

During the professional days – 18, 19 and 20 January – numerous experts in tourism and people associated with the LGBT segment will impart conferences and participate in round tables and debates in a comprehensive programme of workshops.

During the weekend – 21 and 22 January – there will be shows for the general public and families, since FITUR GAY (LGBT) is planning together with MADO (Madrid Orgullo – Madrid Pride) different recreational activities and actions as a prelude to Madrid World Pride 2017.

It will also see the presentation of the FITUR GAY (LGBT) – Diversity Consulting International Awards, third edition, which have already been presented in previous editions to people, businesses and institutions supporting LGBT normalisation, such as Their Majesties the Kind and Queen of Spain, the Ambassador of the United States, Mr James Costos, Tourism of Argentina, the El Mundo newspaper, the Producer SOM (Priscila, Chicago, Cabaret, etc.) and the Tourism Area of the Madrid Region. The winners of this very special edition will be announced shortly.

The awards to “Recognition”, in their second edition, will also be presented to people who have worked directly to improve the lives of LGBT people. In the first edition it was won by the PSOE, Ciudadanos and Podemos political parties for the “Madrid Region Gender Identity Law”.

All the information on the schedule of debates, conferences and round tables as well as spectacles, events and awards will be announced on the FITUR.lgbt website and on the FITUR app.

Attending for the first time is Colombia, with 4 stands, in a clear commitment to normalisation; plus Costa Rica and Ecuador.  Argentina is back for the 7th year. Also participating are Spanish destinations such as Madrid (Region and City Hall), Valencian Region with 4 stands, Extremadura, Andalusia, Ibiza, Gran Canaria, Bilbao-Vizcaya, Torremolinos, Maspalomas–Costa Canaria, Iberia (principal sponsor), Westin Palace (Marriott), Google, Ecovatios with its contribution of renewable eco-friendly technologies for the hospitality industry, Business Schools such as IE (Instituto de Empresa), UNWTO, IGLTA, TURESPAÑA, Coca Cola, 1001 BODAS, Axel Hotels, Shangay magazine, Voyager Loottis, etc. It will all be covered by the official LGBT television “GAYLES.TV” and the official LGBT radio, which will be broadcasting live throughout the 5 days from FITUR 2017, “Ponte Chueca.com”. There will also be the “LIFE.LGBT” portal of lifestyle news only, which will have groups of journalists and bloggers chronicling live everything that happens during the 5 days.

The world’s largest companies and destinations will take an interest in the segment which, in the case of Spain, receives more than 6.2 million LGBT tourists a year and generates revenue of more than 6.3 billion euros for the country, almost 40% more than Business Tourism.

FITUR GAY (LGBT) has always sought to normalise the GAY (LGBT) segment and 95% of exhibitors are non-LGBT companies and destinations that are seeking to make themselves known to the GAY (LGBT) public and to show that they have not the slightest problem with tourists’ sexual leanings and instead have maximum respect. This is a very great help in social terms, as already demonstrated in the report (historic for being the first one) drafted by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation and presented at the FITUR GAY (LGBT) 2012 staging.

Currently that same World Tourism Organisation, together with IGLTA, is preparing a second report that links tourism with the social advances in the LGBT field and in which FITUR is collaborating, say David Martín (IGLTA Ambassador in Spain) and Juan Pedro Tudela, both of them creators of the only LGBT consultancy brand in Spain, Diversity Consulting International.
