Marta Domènech, Director of Tourism of Catalonia, Antonia Varela, Director of the Starlight Foundation, and Erika Harms, Strategic Director of Coastal Health, Iberostar Group, are the first speakers confirmed for the fourth edition of the Observatory to be held from 18 to 21 January at FITUR.

MADRID – FiturNext, the FITUR Observatory dedicated to promoting good sustainable tourism practices, in alliance with CAF -development bank of Latin America- will host four days dedicated to promoting regenerative tourism between 18 and 21 January at the International Tourism Trade Fair, FITUR, organized by IFEMA MADRID.

The programme will complement the awards ceremony for the winning initiatives of the 2023 challenge with a series of talks, dialogues and round tables that will highlight the role of tourism in the regeneration of the natural environment, encouraging activities and services that promote sustainability and climate responsibility.

Renowned experts committed to regenerative tourism
The event will be attended by professionals from the tourism sector who promote an industry that is conscious of the environment and the local community of the destination. Among them will be Marta Domènech, Director of Tourism of Catalonia, Antonia Varela, Managing Director of the Starlight Foundation, and Erika Harms, Strategic Director of Coastal Health, Iberostar Group.

Domènech is working, among other things, on regenerative tourism projects. Varela promotes astrotourism and local development through the Starlight Foundation, while Harms has focused her career on initiatives for the Sustainable Tourism Alliance and was Founding Executive Director of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

Awards ceremony for the winning initiatives of the 2023 Challenge
As every year, the FiturNext programme features the highlight of the edition: the awards ceremony for the winning projects of the Challenge, this year dedicated to how tourism can contribute to the regeneration of the natural environment. Plogging Tour, Iberostar Group and Green Pepper Travel are the winning initiatives of this year’s edition.

The agenda will also include dialogues with private and public sector organisations, round tables dedicated to topics such as regenerative public policies and workshops on participation and co-creation.
