Florida: Marco Island ranks as most expensive destination, CheapHotels.org. survey shows

Marco Island, located a few miles from the Florida Everglades and close to Naples, is the most expensive beach destination in Florida, according to the latest survey from CheapHotels.org.

MIAMI – The latest survey from CheapHotels.org has just revealed Florida’s most expensive beach destinations. Earning top billing in the rankings is Marco Island on the state’s southwestern coast, just a few miles from the Florida Everglades and in close proximity to Naples.

In coming up with the rankings, the survey compared the hotel rates of 20 popular Floridian destinations. The timeframe of February and March 2015 served as the basis of comparison. These months were chosen because they represent the high season for most of the Sunshine State’s beach destinations.

To lodge overnight in a Marco Island hotel this February or March, guests can expect to pay an average of $302 for a stay in the most affordable double room. It must be mentioned that the survey took into consideration only those accommodations that are located near the beach and that have received a positive overall rating from previous clients.

Rounding out the Top 3 are Sanibel Island and Key West. Average nightly rates of $287 and $254 respectively landed these beachside hotspots in the second and third positions. Miami Beach came in substantially more affordable at $178 per night. As a result, it fell outside of the Top 10 list.

It bears noting that the beach destinations in Northern Florida reach their high season during the summer months as opposed to February and March. As a result, St. Augustine, Daytona Beach and Panama City Beach are found at the bottom of the survey’s rankings.

The following table compares 20 popular destinations in Florida, based on their average hotel rates for the cheapest available double room during the time period spanning February 1 through March 31, 2015. All rates were established between January 20 and 23, 2015 via the hotel comparison website Kayak.
