FMG Annual Report with Sustainability Report again recognized for excellence

In 2011, FMG achieved several milestones in its development. With approximately 38 million travellers using the airport – a gain of 9 percent over the previous year – Munich set a new record for total passengers in a single year.

With the new 190-page “Perspectives 2011”, Munich Airport has now published its second integrated report, providing information on the business activities of FMG, the airport operating company, as well as its sustainability-related goals and activities.

In 2011, FMG achieved several milestones in its development. With approximately 38 million travellers using the airport – a gain of 9 percent over the previous year – Munich set a new record for total passengers in a single year. With this result, Munich Airport rose to the number six ranking among Europe’s busiest airports for the first time. FMG also posted new records in its financial results for 2011, setting new all-time highs for consolidated revenues and earnings.

Under the FMG corporate philosophy, business success must always be aligned with a commitment to the conservation of resources and environmental protection along with social objectives and society as a whole. Consequently, Perspectives 2011 provides information not only on business performances, but also on the company’s efforts to achieve its sustainability goals. This includes detailed documentation of savings in CO2 emissions, showing that FMG achieved a real success in 2011 en route to the goal of carbon-neutral growth, which is part of the corporate strategy. Despite a record number of passengers, the CO2 emissions from facilities, buildings and vehicles were substantially lower for the third consecutive year.

As in the previous year, the Perspectives 2011 report was audited by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). Once again, Munich Airport earned the highest possible rating of “Level A+”. The GRI guidelines have become the international benchmark for sustainability reporting. They undergo continual development and improvement through cooperation among companies, institutions and researchers. Some 1,800 companies, associations and organizations in more than 60 countries around the world utilize the standards set by GRI, which was established in 1997. Perspectives – Annual Report 2011
