Gane and Marshall are re-launching Zimbabwe holidays

Since the late 1990s, the relations between the British tourist board and the Zimbabwean government have been strained at best.

The move signals a significant change in attitudes from British tourists as they begin to embrace the new wave of interest in the country that has already spread across Asia, the Middle East and North America.

Since the late 1990s, the relations between the British tourist board and the Zimbabwean government have been strained at best. The reputation of their ageing President, Robert Mugabe, has caused many people to discount the country from their shortlist when considering a holiday to Africa. However, a recent influx in industry from tourists from around the world – including from other European nations – has caused interest to build once more.

There are a few contributing factors to this upturn. For example, the hyper-inflated Zimbabwean dollar has been abandoned in favour of the US Dollar, a move that has proved both practical and popular with residents and tourists alike.

Along with this, there has been investment in Zimbabwe from a number of high-profile international businesses. Airlines such as Emirates and KLM have begun chartering flights to Harare, and the construction of a Hilton hotel is already under way. As a result, the number of tourists is increasing every year.

It is not just the Zimbabwean people and tourists that are benefiting, either. As more and more people are choosing the country for their safari excursions, the industry has been able to take more preventative measures against poachers. As tourism grows the number of poaching incidents in places such as the Hwange National Park, an area the size of Switzerland, continue to fall.

A spokesperson for Gane & Marshall, a leading company in the field of international wildlife and adventure excursions, has released a statement following their announcement. “Nowadays, Zimbabwe is very much one of Africa’s hidden gems. With a wealth of natural beauty such as the Victoria Falls, Lake Kariba and the mythical Matopos, there is more than enough to keep even the most seasoned traveller occupied.

“This, combined with a number of social changes that the country has enjoyed, means that Zimbabwe has rightly begun to rebuild its reputation within the international community. Investment in infrastructure is only expected to grow, and the warm nature of the local communities continues to provide lasting memories for those who visit. At Gane & Marshall we are extremely excited to re-launch our holiday packages to Zimbabwe and can’t wait to rekindle Britain’s love affair with it once more.”

Gane & Marshall is a long-established wildlife and adventure travel company providing tailor-made holidays to Africa, the Indian Ocean islands and wildlife destinations around the world. Their adventure holidays are also sold as tailor-made and small group travel itineraries. The company is ATOL licenced and financially bonded by the Civil Aviation Authority.
