The delivery of the new aircraft will be gradual from 2020 onwards: ten jets will be delivered in the first half of 2020, five further aircraft are planned for 2021.

BERLIN – At the Farnborough International Airshow in the UK, Germania Fluggesellschaft has nnounced the renewal of its entire fleet, paving the way for the company‘s future strategic direction. An order in 2010 for five planes from the A320 stable is now followed by a larger order from Germania’s sister company S.A.T. for 25 A320neo jets from European aircraft manufacturer Airbus as well as for additional options of a further 15 aircraft of the same model.

The delivery of the new aircraft will be gradual from 2020 onwards: ten jets will be delivered in the first half of 2020, five further aircraft are planned for 2021. The remaining ten planes will be delivered in 2022. As a first stage, planes which are currently foreign-leased will leave Germania‘s fleet first. Thereafter, the new Airbus jets will also replace the Boeing planes which Germania currently operates. Throughout the Germania Group‘s entire network, which includes Berlin-based Germania Fluggesellschaft mbH and Swiss Germania Flug AG, there will be a uniform Airbus fleet in operation.

Karsten Balke, Germania’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), says: “In our quest for highly modern and efficient aircraft, we are relying on our established and trusted partnership with Airbus. The order of 25 A320neo, fitted with the latest engines from Pratt & Whitney, provides a solid foundation for Germania’s future business development. By implementing the most recent technology and unifying our fleet we expect considerable synergies.”

“We are delighted that Germania Group has renewed its confidence in Airbus to further expand its Airbus fleet. By operating the A320neo, the airline will benefit from further fuel efficiency and latest cabin innovations with unmatched comfort for their passengers”, said Fabrice Bregier, Airbus President and Chief Executive Officer.

In its thirtieth anniversary year, the Berlin-based airline is launching the biggest fleet renewal programme in its history.  With the A320neo, Germania is investing in one of the most modern aircraft of its size. The new jets will be fitted with 180 seats and the latest generation of Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower® Geared Turbofan engines, which will considerably reduce operational costs, increase fuel efficiency and considerably reduce noise emissions.

The future of innovative aviation is bright and we are glad to have Germania by our side as we look to develop our new partnership with them into a prosperous one,” said Rick Deurloo, Pratt & Whitney’s SVP Commercial Engines Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service. “We look forward to providing Germania with the most technologically advanced engine available – the Pratt & Whitney PurePower Geared Turbofan engine.”
